Federal Analysis:

Department of the Interior Minerals Management Service report on safety and environmental management:  http://www.mms.gov/federalregister/PDFs/74FR28639.pdf

"It appears that equipment failure is rarely the primary cause of the incident or accident... However, in most cases, accidents and oil spills can be traced to human error and/or organizational failures. For that reason, operators must ensure that safe and environmentally sound operating practices are followed." p. 28643 of above document

Directional Drilling and the Fracing process:

It is still unclear if the Paredon Project will employ hydraulic fracturing for their method of extraction or what the effects could be given Carpinteria's geology. (The prospect of reinjection wells alone was troubling in the Proposed Final EIR.)

The Endocrine Disruption Exchange has a page devoted to the chemicals involved in natural gas operations available: http://www.endocrinedisruption.com/chemicals.introduction.php

The TEDX Natural Gas page also contains a longer and more informative video presentation entitled "What You Need to Know about Natural Gas Production" at http://www.endocrinedisruption.com/chemicals.video.php

And this page also contains links to a short industry video about hydraulic fracturing (in shale) available at : http://www.pamarcellus.com/web/

A great documentary about the fracking process by PBS. A new boom in natural gas drilling, a process called "fracking", raises concerns about health and environmental risks. http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/613/
