Venoco's Proposed Paredon Project, Now Defeated
- An approximately 17 story (175 feet) drilling rig during Phases I & II
- An approximately 14 story (140 feet) drilling rig during Phase III
- The drilling of 35 separate oil and gas wells
- A drilling platform (where the major activity takes place) 40 feet in the air, active 24/7 and brightly lit at night
- Crude oil tanks, pipelines, a gas compression plant, a natural gas liquid recovery plant, and any additional structures the applicant deems necessary.
- Operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during drilling, activities resulting in:
- Risks of blow-outs, explosions, and/or release of toxic vapors
- Visual blight that cannot be covered over
- Excessive industrial noise, including clanging pipes, heavy trucks and machinery, buzzing hoists and lifts, men shouting, motors, brakes on drawworks, shakers and warning devices
- Hundreds of heavy trucks bringing pipes and equipment causing traffic congestion and roadway damage
- Noxious odors
- A project lifetime of 30 years.
